Blood Pressure Monitor Reviews

HoMedics BPA-200 TheraP Automatic

Overall Rating
53

The Homedics BPA-200 is very easy to operate and comfortable to wear. The monitor’s large display is perfect for the elderly and the visually impaired, but it fails to impress in the category which matters most – accuracy. The BPA-200 consistently reflects measurements which are 15-20 mmHg higher than those taken by a medical practitioner. For this reason, we cannot give it our nod of approval.

HoMedics BPA-200 TheraP Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor Review:

The HoMedics BPA-200 comes with an intelligent inflate cuff, uncomplicated instruction manual and 4 AA batteries. Also included in this bundle, is an AC wall adapter and a vinyl storage bag for easy transportation.

What Features Does it Have?

  • Large Screen Display
  • Smart Sense
  • Risk Category Calculator
  • Two User Option
  • Date and Time Display
  • Store 120 Readings
  • Memory Averaging
  • Recalibration Technology

This unit has a really big display screen, which is a great feature for the elderly or the visually impaired, given that it is so easy to read.

We also like the fact that the HoMedics BPA-200 is able to store up to 120 readings with date and time attached. This will not only allow you to track and monitor fluctuations in your health, but it will also enable you to give your doctor an overview of your blood pressure readings over time.

To make life even easier, the dual option feature helps you to differentiate between the readings of more than one person. You can therefore share this monitor with a spouse or a loved one.

Furthermore, the risk category calculator is relatively unique. Depending on what your blood pressure reading is, this feature will indicate whether it is too high or too low.

Even though the HoMedics BPA-200 blood pressure monitor boasts all of these great features, it does not meet the high levels of accuracy that we have come to expect from blood pressure machines currently on the market.

Customer feedback reports indicate that this monitor consistently provides blood pressure readings that are 15-20 mmHg higher than those taken at a doctor’s office. A monitor that provides high, inaccurate readings will not only cause you unnecessary anxiety, but it will also be of no use in providing you with a clear, truthful picture of your overall health.

Is the Price Right?

  • No

This monitor costs $40.00, which is an average price compared to others in its category. However, given this blood pressure machine’s reputation for inconsistent and inaccurate readings, we suggest that you rather invest in one of our top-rated products.

Does it Come With a Warranty?

  • Yes

HoMedics provides a limited lifetime warranty for each of their blood pressure units. This would seem like unrivaled commitment, but the truth is that you will find no form of recourse for problems with an inaccurate monitor if the manufacturer has not yet acknowledged that it is inaccurate.

Who Manufactures it?

  • HoMedics

HoMedics started out by specializing in general health and wellness equipment, like massage machines, but soon they expanded into the field of medical diagnostic equipment as well.

This manufacturer believes in simplicity, especially when it comes to matters like health, fitness and overall personal well-being. As a result, their products are easy to use, well-priced and are generally of a high quality.

How Does it Work?

One touch of a single button is all that it takes to operate this fully automatic blood pressure monitor. After the cuff has inflated and deflated, your systolic and diastolic pressure readings will be displayed on the extra large display screen.

Does HoMedics Deliver on its Promises?

  • To some extent

Homedics’ promises concerning quality, durability, convenience and ease of use are true, but those concerning accuracy are mostly misleading.

If you are looking for a truly accurate unit, perhaps you should look into buying one of our top-rated monitors or a blood pressure machine from the Omron series.

Rating: 53/100

Our Verdict: Accuracy is the number one feature that you should look for in a blood pressure monitor, and the reality is that the HoMedics BPA-200 does not provide this feature. We like its supersized digital display for the visually impaired and the elderly, but we would not sacrifice precision for aesthetic appeal.
